PHILIPPINES LANDBANK TO EXPAND ISO COVERAGE THIS YEAR
MANILA, March 6 Asia Pulse - The Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) plans to expand its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification this year in a bid to further enhance its Quality Management System (QMS).
In a statement, LBP said the target areas for further ISO coverage include the operations of automated teller machines (ATMs) and Metro Manila branches, loans to government corporations and credit operations in Region III.
LBP president and chief executive officer (CEO) Gilda Pico said the plan is in line with their achievement in September last year wherein they received ISO 9001-2001 certifications for thrust banking and wholesale commercial lending.
This feat was the reason LBP was cited recently as among the three government agencies institutionalizing QMS and securing ISO 9001:2000 certification. The other two agencies are Department of Trade and Industries (DTI) Regional Office XI and Civil Aeronautics Board.
Awarding ceremonies for the 10th Philippine Quality Awards was held at the Rizal Hall in Malacanang on February 28, 2008.
Pico received the award from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Trade Secretary Peter Favila, National Competitiveness Council Co-chairman Cesar Bautista, and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Donald Dee.
Pico said the citation affirms Landbanks effort to achieve excellence and uphold quality throughout the organization.
We are geared to continually enhance the competitiveness of our operations in order to meet our customers needs and expectations, she added.
Pico said institutionalizing QMS is part of the banks thrust of attaining business and service excellence, the National Competitiveness Summit Agenda, and the Malacanang Executive Order No. 605 issued last year directing the government offices to institutionalize QMS.
